1922年：厦门大学动物学系、植物学系创办

1920’-- 80’：金德祥、唐仲璋、林鹏等教授对海洋硅藻、寄生动物以及亚热带滨海湿地尤其是红树林生态系统开展系统研究

1982年：厦门大学环境科学研究所成立

1987年：动物学国家重点学科获批

2002年：厦门大学湿地生态工程研究中心成立

2004年：生态学福建省重点学科获批

2006年：研究团队成为福建省亚热带湿地生态学创新群体

2007年：环境科学、海洋科学和水生生物学国家重点学科获批

2007年：滨海湿地生态系统教育部重点实验室获教育部批准建设

2008年：滨海湿地生态系统教育部重点实验室通过建设论证

2011年：滨海湿地生态系统教育部重点实验室通过教育部验收

2012年：海洋环境科学领域一批优秀研究人员加盟实验室

2015年：滨海湿地生态系统教育部重点实验室顺利通过教育部首轮评估

2017年、2022年：依托学科生态学、海洋科学、生物学入选第一轮和第二轮“双一流”建设学科名单

2020年：滨海湿地生态系统教育部重点实验室顺利通过教育部第二轮评估

1922: Department of Zoology and Department of Botany of Xiamen University was founded.

1920`s~1980`s: Professor Dexiang Jin, Chungchang Tang and Peng Lin carried out systematic studies on marine diatoms, parasitic animals, and subtropical coastal wetland ecosystems especially in mangrove wetlands. 

1982: Environmental Sciences Research Institute of Xiamen University was founded.

1987: Zoology was admitted as the National Key Discipline.

2002: Engineering Research Center of Xiamen University for Wetland Ecosystem was founded.

2004: Ecology was selected as the Provincial Key Discipline.

2006: Mangrove Research Laboratory was granted as “Group of Excellence” of Fujian Province for sub-tropical wetland ecology.

2007: Environmental Sciences, Marine Science and Aquatic Biology were admitted as the National Key Discipline.

2007: WEL was promoted to be a Key Lab of MOE.

2008: WEL started to develop comprehensively.

2011: WEL passed the review by MOE.

2012: Group of professors in marine environmental sciences joined WEL.

2015: WEL passed the initial evaluation by MOE.

2017 & 2022: Ecology, Marine Science and Biology are designated by the "Double First-Class" Initiative support discipline list.

2020年：WEL passed the second round of evaluation by MOE
